Mission The mission of the SKP Young Adult Program is to provide support for 18 -30 something years olds and their families who have experienced the death of a significant person in their lives, as an ongoing ministry of Jesus Christ.
The long road to healing begins here.
Most people do not have the resources to cope with the incredibly difficult grieving process following a traumatic loss. The SKP Young Adult Program provides understanding and support in a safe, nurturing environment, where young adults can share their experience as they move through the process of greiving the loss of a loved one.
Through peer groups, discussion and educatoin, the SKP Young Adult Program provides the resources necessary to help 18 -30 something year olds greive a devastating loss, while finding strength and joy in the shared memories of someone special. Here, participants will have the opportunity to meet others who also have experienced the death of a parent, primary caretaker, spouse, child, sibling, brother, sister, friend or other significant person.
The program is free of charge and participants meet twice a month fo 90 minute sessions that include both discussion & group activities.
During the sessions, participants are encouraged to express their thoughts and feelings through peer support, activities, and group participation. SKP Young Adult Program does not provide private therapy or counseling. All groups are led by trained volunteers and coordinated by our professional staff.
Where Understanding and healing go hand in hand. When someone loses a loved one, they often feel alone and different from their peers. The SKP Young Adult Program provides an opportunity for young adults to meet and develop relationships with others their age sho have lost someone close. We provide a very welcoming, relaxed environmnet for our groups.
There are situatins when a young adult has never greived for the loss of a loved one, perhaps because of financiel reasons, no resources available in their area, or a number of other conditions. This is another reason why the SKP Young Adult Program> is so important. At SKP, it doesn't matter when the loss occurred, It is possible to find hope, healing & growth throughout the greiving process.
Don't let one terrible loss lead to another. As a society, we are reluctant to express our grief. Or, we may simply not know how to deal with the loss of a loved one. But these inactions could be detrimental to one's emotional healing and development. We all need an opportunity to say good-bye, share feelings and deal with emotions.
Everyone greives differently, but in the end, we must all accept that the loss is real, that it is okay to feel pain and that we must adjust to living without the person we love while still maintaining a connection with them. At SKP we help young adults and their families work through this very iportant greiving process.
We also provide free child care for infants through 5th grade.
