Center Groups
GROUPS WE OFFER
Suncoast Kids Place provides peer support groups for children and teens, ages 3-18, and their families. Group participants will meet others around their age who have also experienced the death of a significant person. As grief is a lifelong process, we welcome families at any time they are ready to access our services.
Registration is required before attending your first group. Please complete the pre-registration form to get started.
CENTER LOCATIONS
Suncoast Kids Place offers peer support groups at the following center locations:
SKP Lutz: Meets at the SKP houses at Bay Hope Church Lakeshore (17030 Lakeshore Rd, Lutz, FL 33558) [3 years old - 12th grade]
SKP Westchase: Meets at Bay Hope Church Westchase (10701 Sheldon Rd, Tampa, FL 33625) [K - 12th grade]
SKP Online: Meets virtually through Zoom [K - 12th grade]
During the twice-a-month, 90-minute sessions, the children and teens will get to participate in:
Play/Hangout Time: They have the opportunity to play and get to know one another. The group leader and volunteers utilize play therapy techniques to support the participants during this time.
Circle Time: The group sits down in a circle for the activity. They will review the group rules, participate in a mindfulness activity, and spend time on the curriculum activity for the night.
Group Closing: The group session ends with a closing ceremony to honor the people who have died.
All of the groups are facilitated by professional staff and are assisted by trained volunteers. We provide no private therapy or counseling.
AGE GROUPS
The children and teens are grouped together by their age/grade categories. Some examples include:
Littles (3 - 5 years old)
Kindergarten – 2nd grade
3rd – 5th grade
Middle school
High school
CAREGIVER GROUPS
We strongly encourage caregivers to attend our concurrent Caregiver Support Groups. These groups offer a safe space to process your own grief while learning how to support your child.
In-Person Caregiver Groups: Meet during your child's scheduled group time. Note: If you choose not to participate in the caregiver group, safety guidelines require you to remain on campus (in your car or our lobby) while your child is in session.
Online Caregiver Group: Offered virtually twice a month (1st & 3rd Wednesdays from 7:00–8:30 PM). Open to any caregiver enrolled in SKP programs.
